Childbirth Education Instructor
Katherine Steen
Katherine has been teaching for nearly 20 years and has worked with a diverse range of audiences, from infants to seniors. She holds a B.S. in Animal Science from Cornell University and a Master’s degree in nonprofit management. After the birth of her first daughter, Katherine left her job managing education programs at a zoological park to pursue a passion for perinatal education. She began training as a childbirth educator in 2011 and became a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator in 2013.
In 2016, Katherine and her family relocated to Buffalo, NY, after spending four years teaching childbirth education in Seattle, WA. Katherine’s goal is to inspire students to enter labor feeling prepared and confident, so they can be satisfied with their births, no matter how they unfold. Her favorite part of teaching is building relationships with birthing families and supporting them as they transition to their “new normal.”
Outside of teaching, Katherine enjoys cooking, yoga, hiking, and spending time with her husband and two daughters. She also serves as a humane educator for the SPCA Serving Erie County and co-leads the Buffalo Chapter of Improving Birth.
